My grandfather, Adolf "Dick" Mozeleski was a mule boy here. He got his nickname "Dick" from the mule that he championed when it was injured. He ran around the colliery, crying "THEY'RE GONNA SHOOT DICK! THEY'RE GONNA SHOOT HIM!" and somehow apparently succeeded in having the mule treated or freed from service. We called him "Dick" for as long as we knew him.
