  1. My grandmother Jean Slovick worked here for over 25 years from the 50's thru the 70's. When she retired, they gave her a solid gold watch. She stood on the corner of Sloan and S. Main Ave. every morning at 5:30am waiting for her car pool to pick her up. I remember how hard the work was for her, standing on her feet all day and then walking back up the hill every night to get home.

  2. Adele, My grandmother, Sarah Sullivan, was taken out of school after she finished third grade and worked in the silk mills until she was a teenager. She then got a job in a Scranton department store. It's hard for us to imagine just how hard our parents and grandparents worked.
